Has anyone worked as both a PTA and a Personal Trainer? Would it be possible or even a good idea?
---->Indeed! ;-) Of the many options we have, pursuing a PTA licence is one of the best directions a personal trainer can go in my opinion. I worked as a PT Aide for a year, then as a PT Technician almost 4 years(non-licensed position as well. Depending on where you work and how they designate the position. Upon returning to training full time after almost 5 years in the PT field, I marketed myself to a local Chiropractor's office attached to his wellness center gym. As a independent contractor / Post rehab exercise trainer possessing practical skills and experienced in overseeing patients' therapeutic exercise programs. the accomplishment was administering post rehab exercise on the Chiropractor's patients for close to 7 years. A trainer with related work experience capable of bridging the gap between physical therapy and fitness is a trainer possessing a valuable foundation for the trainer. The same hold true for the Physical Therapist and Chiropractor in terms of investing time and further training growing the trainer's skills to complement their rehab business. My next goal is to return to school and get into a PT Assistant program. I think it's the perfect choice. Good luck to you. So as with any physical therapy student, a trainer securing a PT Aide or Tech position is a perfect way to get a foot in the door early on and start earning documented work hours needed to qualify for PT assistant programs. Be it a paid position (even better), internship, or volunteer it's worth it.
