I've recently graduated from the Finger Lakes School of Massage, and am currently a practicing massage therapist at a chiropractic clinic. I enjoy my job very much, but sometimes the hours of being a massage therapist can be somewhat sparse. I enjoy being part of a rehabilitative team, and working one on one with people. I'm interested in continuing my education physical therapy for these reason, and I feel that the hours would be more consistent. I also like the idea of being a physical therapist assistant with a back ground in massage.
Aside from my massage modalities I've taken Anatomy and physiology as well as kinesiology. I don't think the credits from my massage school will transfer over, but having already taken those courses would give me a leg up in continuing my education.
So my two main question are; will I have the ability to utilize my skills as a massage therapist in physical therapy? And are there part time positions for physical therapist assistants? Potentially I would like to work as a physical therapist assistant for 25 hours or so per week so I have availability to also work as a massage therapist on my own time.
Any input would very helpfull. Thank you.
